Pumpkin
The pumpkin is a gourd-like squash thought to have originated in North America. Seeds of the pumpkin have been found in Mexico and dated to between 5500 and 7000 BC. Most parts of the pumpkin are edible and it is very popular in the United States at Halloween and Thanksgiving. It can be boiled, baked steamed or roasted and is frequently the chief constituent of pumpkin pie. Small young pumpkins may be eaten in the same way as baby marrows or zucchinis. In Asian countries it is cooked with sugar, butter and spices. Pumpkin extract is thought to be excellent for diabetes. Pumpkin seeds are small and flat and are a popular snack that can be found in many North American grocery stores.
