Serving guests plated meals while they are seated is more expensive than opting for a buffet. It is also more classy and creates an elegant, formal atmosphere. Picky guests will be quite impressed.

Guests may welcome the fact that they do not have to fall in line for their food - especially the elderly and those with babies. Serving plated meals to small children may be wasteful as they tend to be less appreciative of unfamiliar foods.
