Questions To Ask Caterers Regarding Costing
After deciding on the type of menu for an event and whether it will be served as a buffet or plated meals, a caterer should be able to give an estimate of the cost per person. Confirm the possibility of hidden costs before entering into a written agreement. That can be confirmed by asking the following questions.
- Are there a ceiling on the estimated menu price? Caterers normally leave room for price increases that may occurred after first submitting an estimated price to the client. The ceiling on that should not be more than 10%
- What does the cost per person include?
- Is there extra fees to be paid for the rental of linen, plates, flatware and glasses?
- Does the price include tax?
- Is there a printed price sheet available?
- Is there a fee for overtime or late cancellation?
- When is the deposit due as well as the outstanding amount?
- Can the money be paid by check, credit card or cash?
- When catering off-site it may be necessary to rent equipment like fridges, etc. Will the client be responsible for the cost?
