South Africa as a tourist destination has grown tremendously since 1994. The growing economy and upcoming occasions like the 2010 Soccer World Cup will have more and more South Africans scratching their heads about the catering side of entertaining . What to serve the Middle-Eastern/Japanese/American/German or Russian visitors?
Serving only traditionally South African delicacies might prove to be a well-intended but not so well-received idea. Kalahari Prawns (slices of fried ox liver) may not go down well with Americans, for instance. A visit to Mauritius a few years back had me craving for food that were not so…well, Mauritian. The food were well-prepared and presented but I found that everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) had curry in it. From Breakfast right through to Supper. It dawned on me that for foreigners to feel welcome in a strange country, they need something to remind them of home.

Entertaining people can be a challenge. The brave few who does the catering themselves will all agree that this is no easy task. Stress levels rise as one tries to prepare food, put out drinks and get the venue in an orderly state. Not to mention having time to put on make-up and getting dressed.
